Are you fascinated by how animals sense the world around them? Do sharks, soundscapes, and neuroscience spark your curiosity? My lab welcomes expressions of interest from motivated students who are keen to get involved in our research.
We offer opportunities for students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels to gain research experience in marine bioacoustics, sensory ecology, and comparative neuroscience. Our projects are diverse, interdisciplinary, and often involve collaboration with international researchers.
Before getting in touch, we ask prospective students to carefully review the steps outlined below.
Read some of our publications to get a solid understanding of the kinds of questions we’re asking and the systems we work on. Take note of the areas that resonate most with your own interests.
Review our techniques
Our research relies on a range of methods, from underwater acoustic recordings and behavioural trials to CT scanning and 3D image segmentation. Make a list of the techniques we use that you’re already familiar with, and identify those you’d be excited to learn or strengthen.
Send us some documents
Prepare a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) with your education history and any work or research experience, as well as your transcripts.
Also, submit a one-page summary of your research interests, and potentially a research project you would be interested in pursuing if you were accepted in our lab that fits within our research focus.
We value enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. We’re especially keen to hear from students who are proactive, reflective, and excited to contribute to a collaborative and supportive research environment.
